Buying a printer, it’s not the most exciting thing in the world. Nevertheless, picking the right size printer for your location is essential, after all, who wants to unbox their new desktop printer to discover it’s the size of a small washing machine?
Shopping online for a printer can be a shot in the dark. Without visiting a printer showroom, it’s hard to know whether it will be the right size or even look the part. So, what do you do? Ricoh says it has the answer.
Futures Made of Augmented Reality
Not to be confused with virtual reality, Ricoh has launched a 3D Augmented Reality App on Google Play and iTunes, which lets you see what its printers looks like in your environment. By using a smart mobile phone or tablet, you can see a live rendered 3D version of your chosen printer sat right on your own desk.
Augmented reality is a technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a user’s view of the real world, thus providing what is called a ‘composite view’. Follow these steps to see what we mean:
- Download the Ricoh Augmented Reality App from Google Play or iTunes
- Download the Ricoh Augmented Reality Marker PDF and print it out
- Place the printed marker sheet on a flat surface
- Load the app and point your camera at the marker to see the magic happen!
There is a selection of printers and multifunctional printers that are available to use on the app from Ricoh’s SP and SG ranges. These are dynamic 3-D models, so you can view them from any angle and interact them to see how they look, how much space is required to access panels and open paper trays and document feeders.
