Ricoh has just launched three new mono multifunctional products all featuring its all-new Smart Operation Panel as standard.
The new smart operation panel is a stylish alternative to Ricoh’s current user interface and runs a modified version of Google’s Android operating system. Just like its mobile cousins, the new UI offers fast and simple navigation with the ability to customise the layout to best suit your needs.
The trend is touch
These days, we expect our devices to be touch operated. If you are anything like me, you will have already found yourself absent-mindedly swiping and pinching photocopier screens, expecting them to react just like your phone or tablet. It was only a matter of time before the MFP manufacturers caught up and gave us what we wanted – touch!
The Smart Operation Panel features:
- Easy home screen customisation
- Drag & drop icons
- Page scrolling with flick operation
- Toner level indication
- Smooth and comfortable operability
- Full browser: browse the internet from the MFP
- Choose your own background
The 10.1” full-colour touch screen replaces the standard control panel, removing the majority of hard keys and making the functions accessible by touch. There is a selection of hard keys for home, ‘back’, apps, check status, and a stop button. 99% of all functions have been converted to soft keys.
Give me Apps!
Of course, the big thing about touch screen devices is Apps. Apple and Google’s success in the mobile sectors is attributed to more than just their devices, it is the creation of a common platform that has enabled developers to create the millions of a free and paid for Apps we can access.
With Ricoh using Android OS, developers have a familiar software development kit (SDK) to adapt existing, or create new apps that will benefit business MFP users. There is no word on the officially integrated Apps from Ricoh just yet, but we would bet on the list below.
- ELP NX
- Google Drive
- NSi Autostore
- Streamline NX
- Office 365
As well as the Smart Operation Panel all three of these brand new devices feature the Single Pass Duplex Feeder as standard, providing fast, full-colour document scanning. These new models extend the “54” mono range:
- MP 4054AZSP, 40 pages-per-minute
- MP 5054AZSP, 50 pages-per-minute
- MP 6054ZSP , 60 pages-per-minute
They are compact enough to fit in anywhere, being up to 40% smaller footprint than preceding models and generate minimal noise. To meet the needs of these budget minded times, they are designed for energy-saving with their typical electricity consumption (TEC) reported to be among the lowest in the industry.
The range’s versatile connectivity, colour scanning, document feeding with duplexing as standard and various paper supply options (now supports up to 300g/m2), all add up to create a very impressive proposition.
